7 BEST KITCHEN TIPS TO COOK LIKE A PRO

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

There are quite a few selected easy kitchen tips you can apply to raise the quality of your meals, regardless of how experienced you are in the kitchen. I am not a professional chef, but in my profession as an architect, I used to mingle with experts in the food industry to be able to execute my projects. I used to interview my clients and some kitchen staff so I could determine their work flow to create architectural plans. And so, I have observed some interesting methods being employed by food specialists and professional chefs alike to impress their patrons and keep them coming back. I have seen a lot, but I have selected just seven general techniques that worked for me and hoping these would benefit you as well. See how you could surprise your family and friends with your new culinary style by using some of these suggestions.

1. Don't be frightened to try new things.

A good cook never hesitates to add their own flavor to a dish and add their own flair. Make sure to record any substitutions or additions you have made on the recipe you are working on so you can recall whether you liked the modification or not the next time around.

Kitchen scissors

2. Utilize the kitchen's scissors.

You probably only currently use your kitchen scissors to open milk bags and packaging. But the next time you're slicing chicken into strips, opening pitas, or shaving fat from a roast, think about using your scissors! They are frequently used by chefs to chop meat, vegetables, herbs, and other ingredients. It's usually preferable to keep a pair of scissors only for use with food. They do contain nooks where bacteria may lurk, so make sure you clean them well after each usage.

Meat in a glass bowl

3. Foods should always be marinated in glass or ceramic dishes.

The majority of marinades include an acidic component, such as lemon juice, vinegar, or wine, which can react with metal and give your meal an unpleasant flavor. Try marinating your meat on a ceramic plate or in a glass bowl that you can cover, then refrigerate. I have done this when I cooked a Filipino dish called beef kaldereta. Although this is optional, but I suggest you may rotate the bowl every so often to disperse the marinade.

Egg boiling

4. Do not let egg whites runny.

When you cook your eggs, do some of the white seep out? This is due to the air pocket that is present in every egg's bigger, rounded end. The air pocket in the egg grows while it is submerged in simmering water, increasing the atmospheric pressure inside the egg relative to the water. Due to the pressure buildup, the delicate shell breaks. Eggs should be taken out of the fridge and the bigger end should be pierced with a pin to prevent this issue in the future. This will allow the air to escape through a hole. However, if it still cracks while cooking, just add a vinegar capful to the water and see the eggshell self-seals. Unfortunately, this approach won't work if the whites have already started to leak out.

Frying food

5. In frying food, always make sure the oil is hot.

Fried meals taste great, despite the fact that they are not the healthiest choice. Getting the oil heated before adding the food is essential for successful frying. If you don't get the oil hot, your meal will absorb too much oil and taste greasy (but not so hot that it is smoking; be cautious!). A drop of water or even a little piece of the food you're preparing might be added to the oil to see if it's hot enough for frying. It's ready when it bubbles quickly, so you know.

Oil splatter shield

6. Reduce splatters of grease.

Splattering grease makes more of a mess than most things. And it might hurt if it gets on your skin. Before adding the item to be fried, sprinkle hot fat with salt to reduce grease splatters. In case this isn't entirely successful, you may get oil splatter shields from kitchen supply store.

7. Organize your recipe collection.

When you're ready to start cooking, nothing is more annoying than being unable to locate your recipe. Find a strategy for organizing your recipes that you can keep nearby in the kitchen to keep everything in order. Investing in one of those photo books with the plastic layer that you can peel back to reveal a sticky surface is a wonderful choice. As a result, it would be easier to locate recipes the next time around, and you may change or remove them whenever you want.
